Governance of Safe and Supported
Governance arrangements for Safe and Supported: the National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children 2021 - 2031 (Safe and Supported) brings together:
- Australian, state and territory governments,
- the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Leadership Group (Leadership Group)
- non-government organisations through the National Coalition on Child Safety and Wellbeing and its Steering Group.
Together, these groups will deliver Safe and Supported.
Governments and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will make decisions together, through the Leadership Group. This shared decision-making is in line with Priority Reform 1 of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap (Closing the Gap). It will be supported through a formal Partnership Agreement.
Key features of Safe and Supported governance include:
- Community Services Ministers (CSM), Children and Families Secretaries and the Leadership Group as decision-makers
- a Shared Decision-making Body made up of the Leadership Group and high level government officials
- Strategic Advisory Body, involving representatives from all governments, the Leadership Group and the National Coalition on Child Safety and Wellbeing, to ensure coordinated delivery of the Action Plans. This includes linking the Action Plans with other related national strategies and plans.
