Safe and Supported Partnership Agreement

The Partnership Agreement is a commitment between the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Leadership Group and all Australian governments on implementing Safe and Supported.

The Partnership Agreement

The Partnership Agreement supports implementation of Safe and Supported: the National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children 2021-2031 (Safe and Supported) and its two Actions Plans.

The Partnership Agreement is about improving how governments and First Nations peoples work together on implementing Safe and Supported. It ensures decisions impacting First Nations children and young people are made through genuine partnership. Formal partnerships and shared decision-making are what Priority Reform 1 of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap is all about.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Leadership Group (Leadership Group) engages in shared decision-making with governments by:

  • working together to deliver activities under Safe and Supported
  • making sure that decisions about Safe and Supported are made in partnership
  • contributing expert First Nations knowledge and perspectives on the safety and wellbeing of First Nations children, families and communities
  • supporting consultation and engagement with First Nations communities, leaders, children and families (where required and resourced).
