Young Carer Bursary Program
About the Program
The Young Carer Bursary Program (YCBP), assists young carers aged 12-25 years to continue their education by providing financial assistance to reduce the need to undertake part-time work while studying and managing caring responsibilities.
Carers Australia, the national peak body representing Australia’s 2.65 million unpaid carers, has delivered YCBP since its commencement in 2014. In April 2023, the Australian Government announced additional funding of up to $9.75 million for YCBP over the next three years (2022-23 to 2024-25) to increase the number of bursaries available, and raise the annual bursary amount. The number of bursaries offered over the period 2023 to 2025 will now increase from 1,000 to around 1,600 each year, and the value of each bursary will also increase from $3,000 to $3,768.
From 2023, the Australian Government is providing around $20 million for YCBP over 3 years. Bursaries will be awarded to eligible young carers in the greatest need who apply during the advertised application periods.
