Data Exchange
About the Data Exchange
The Data Exchange (DEX) is the program performance reporting solution developed by our department. It allows organisations to report their service delivery information and demonstrate the outcomes they are achieving for their clients. DEX was developed to improve the way we collect and use administrative data to improve the economic and social wellbeing of individuals, families and vulnerable Australians.
Reporting to the Data Exchange
Reporting via DEX is offered as part of the Community Grants Hub’s service offer for all client agencies and has been extended to state and territory jurisdictions.
The name ‘Data Exchange’ reflects the two-way partnership of information sharing between funding agencies and organisations. It shifts the focus of performance measurement from outputs to more meaningful information about service delivery outcomes achieved for individuals, families and their communities.
The data requirements are divided into 2 parts:
- A set of mandatory priority requirements that all organisations report.
- An extended data set, known as the partnership approach.
The partnership approach includes:
- Standard Client / Community Outcomes reporting (SCORE)
- extended set of data items.
A comprehensive guide outlining DEX policy and reporting requirements, including a summary of DEX data items, is available in the DEX Protocols(Opens in a new tab/window).
Organisations can input data in 3 flexible ways:
- Web-service or system-to-system transfers.
- Bulk file uploads via XML files.
- Direct data entry into the web-based portal.
Users of the Data Exchange have access to self-service reports which provide an overview of and insights to their organisation’s service delivery.
