How Do I Get a Diagnosis?
Getting a diagnosis can be a turning point in understanding your child’s behaviours and can help you decide on next steps.
It is important you see your doctor or paediatrician as soon as possible if you are concerned about your child’s development.
You may be referred to a specialist or have tests to confirm a diagnosis.
There are Medicare items for assessment and diagnosis, which can help reduce out of pocket expenses. These items also provide for the development of a treatment and management plan. Find out more about the HCWA and Better Start Medicare items.
You can also get support from your local Autism Association or from Carers Australia. Find their contact details under ‘Other useful contact details’ on our Contact page.
