Early Childhood Targeted Action Plan action 2.4

Review of best practice in early childhood intervention

The Department of Social Services has engaged the University of Melbourne and consortium partners to review best practice in early childhood intervention and to develop a best practice framework. This framework will support children with developmental concerns, delay or disability to have the best possible start in life. This project is part of the Early Childhood Targeted Action Plan under Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021-2031.

This review will involve in-depth stakeholder consultations to ensure the needs of parents and carers of children with developmental concerns, delay or disability, and the views of the broader sector, are understood and reflected in the framework.

The framework will support nationally consistent guidance for best practice in early childhood intervention and provide tools and resources to help practitioners, professionals and families understand and use the framework. Tools and resources will be available in easy read versions, translated into multiple community languages and tailored for specific groups, including parents and professionals.
