Homelessness

National Housing and Homelessness
The National Housing and Homelessness Agreement (NHHA) aims to ensure that all Australians have access to affordable, safe and sustainable housing that contributes to social and economic participation.

The NHHA includes $125 million in 2019-20 dedicated for homelessness services. States and territories will match this funding.

Reconnect
The Australian Government has committed up to $118 million over five years to the Reconnect program, which assists young people who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness.

The Reconnect program uses community-based early intervention services to assist young people aged 12 to 18 years who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, and their families.

Reconnect provides services to young people to find stable accommodation, improve their relationships with family, find work or to stay at school, and participate in their local community.

The aim of the program is to break the cycle of homelessness by providing counselling, group work, mediation and practical support to the whole family.
