Housing and Homelessness Ministerial Council

The Housing and Homelessness Ministerial Council (the Ministerial Council) provides a forum to progress critical housing and homelessness reforms, including improving housing supply, affordability and accessibility, and pathways out of homelessness.

Purpose and role

The Ministerial Council was re-established by National Cabinet on 30 September 2022. The Ministerial Council regularly reports to National Cabinet on their progress to deliver tasked priorities, in addition to reporting annually on its workplan.

The Ministerial Council works closely with the Council on Federal Financial Relations to pursue short and long term policy reforms to improve housing affordability and accessibility.

Membership

The members of the Ministerial Council are the State and Territory Ministers responsible for housing and homelessness, and the Commonwealth Minister for Housing and Minister for Homelessness. The Commonwealth Minister for Housing and Minister for Homelessness is the Chair.
