Housing and Homelessness Ministerial Council

A forum to progress housing and homelessness reforms.

Purpose and role

The Housing and Homelessness Ministerial Council provides a forum to progress critical housing and homelessness reforms, including:

  • improving housing supply, affordability and accessibility  
  • pathways out of homelessness.

The Ministerial Council was re-established by National Cabinet on 30 September 2022. The Ministerial Council regularly reports to National Cabinet on their progress to deliver tasked priorities, in addition to reporting annually on its workplan.

The Ministerial Council works closely with the Council on Federal Financial Relations(Opens in a new tab/window) to pursue short and long term policy reforms to improve housing affordability and accessibility.

Membership

The Commonwealth Minister for Housing and Minister for Homelessness is the Chair. The members of the Ministerial Council are the state and territory ministers responsible for housing and homelessness.
