The Department of Social Services (the department) has partnered with Impact Investing Australia (IIA) and Social Enterprise Australia (SEA) to deliver the Social Enterprise Development Initiative (SEDI).

Following an open, competitive grant round, the department appointed IIA as the Grants Administrator. IIA will promote, select, and provide capability-building grants of up to $120,000 to eligible social enterprise organisations.

SEA will coordinate the SEDI Education and Mentoring activities. As the peak body for social enterprise, SEA will help build social enterprises’ capability to be more effective in increasing their social impact for vulnerable Australians.

SEDI is part of the 2023–24 Budget’s Entrenched Disadvantage Package.

The SEDI will support social enterprises by providing:

  • grants of up to $120,000 to social enterprises
  • online education and connections hub
  • communities of practice
  • peer support networks for social enterprises and the organisations that support them.

The SEDI program will commence in mid-2024.
