New guidelines are now available to help governments and organisations effectively engage with people with disability.

The Good Practice Guidelines for Engaging with People with Disability (the Guidelines) are a commitment under the Engagement Plan of Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021- 2031(Opens in a new tab/window).

Driven by the insights and expertise of people with disability, the Guidelines provide a practical tool for engaging and including people with disability during:

  • community consultation
  • policy development
  • government decision-making.

The Guidelines aim to improve how these engagements are designed, planned and delivered, allowing more people with disability to have their say on topics that impact them.

Consultation with community members, including people with lived experience of disability, First Nations people with disability and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds with disability, all contributed to the development of these comprehensive Guidelines.
