Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Leadership Group

The Leadership Group shares decisions with all Australian governments in implementing Safe and Supported: the National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children 2021-2031.

Purpose and role

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Leadership Group (Leadership Group) is a group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders who are experts in the safety and wellbeing of First Nations children, families and communities. 

The Leadership Group engages in shared decision-making with governments in implementing Safe and Supported: the National Framework for Protecting Australia's Children 2021-2023.

Membership

The Leadership Group has representatives from:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peak organisations, community-controlled organisations and child and family services
  • Commissioners for Children and Young People
  • leading academics on the safety and wellbeing of First Nations children and young people 
  • guardians and advocates for children and young people.

Coordination

SNAICC – National Voice for our Children(Opens in a new tab/window) brings the Leadership Group together. SNAICC is the national peak body representing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. SNAICC is part of the Coalition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peak Organisations.
