Aged care in Australia is not designed to support younger people under the age of 65. This is why the Australian Government is committed to reducing the number of younger people in residential aged care.

A new interactive toolkit aims to help younger people and their families, carers, nominees and support coordinators understand the:

  • different housing options available to them
  • steps involved with leaving residential aged care.

The toolkit aims to give younger people in residential aged care the confidence and knowledge to make choices that work best for them. It includes:

  • fact sheets
  • guides
  • practical tips
  • links to useful resources.

The toolkit supports younger people at different stages of their housing journey and is not intended to be read as a whole document from start to finish. You are invited to focus on the most relevant chapters and revisit other chapters as needed.
