Researchers can now apply to access the National Disability Data Asset.

The National Disability Data Asset brings together de-identified data from across Australia. It helps us to better understand and meet the needs of people with disability. This project is a key initiative under Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021-2031.(Opens in a new tab/window)

The National Disability Data Asset will be used to:

  • give a more complete picture of the programs and services people with disability use.
  • share information about how we can improve opportunities and outcomes for people with disability.
  • help governments improve supports and services for people with disability.

Governments and the wider disability community share responsibility and decision making of the asset. This is achieved through the National Disability Data Asset Council and Charter along with disability-informed ethical oversight, and other advisory panels. These are important safeguards to make sure that the data will be used correctly.

The first release of data contains 18 data sets. Three more releases of data are planned in 2025. This will increase the data available, including data about:

  • Disability
  • Health
  • Social services
  • Education
  • Employment
  • Housing
