Credit cards banned for online gambling

Per the Interactive Gambling Act 2001(Opens in a new tab/window), credit cards are not able to be used to gamble online. The ban includes credit cards and credit payments made via digital wallets. Lottery services (profit and not-for-profit) are excluded from the ban due to a low risk of gambling harm.

The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Corporations and Financial Services(Opens in a new tab/window) recommended the ban.

The ban is regulated by the Australian Communications and Media Authority(Opens in a new tab/window).
