Accessible Australia

This Budget provides funding to work in partnership with states and territories to increase accessibility in community spaces across Australia for people with disability.

What has been announced

$17.1 million over 4 years for a new initiative called Accessible Australia.

Accessible Australia will build on the Changing Places initiative to increase accessibility in a range of community spaces across Australia, in partnership with states and territories.

100% of eligible accessible infrastructure for

  • Inclusive national parks
  • Inclusive beaches
  • Portable changing places facilities

50% of build cost for

  • Fixed changing places facilities
  • Inclusive play spaces

The Government will work closely with states and territories to determine the most appropriate locations for facilities in their communities.

Creating a more accessible Australia

People with disability have the same rights to:

  • Be included in our communities
  • Access the spaces we gather in
  • Experience our natural environment

Changing Places

The Changing Places initiative is one example of what the Australian Government is doing to make Australia more accessible for people with disability, their families and carers.

The initiative is already building facilities in over 30 communities across the country.

  • provides the highest level of accessible bathrooms for people with complex needs
  • helps remove the barriers some face in participating fully in their community

Accessible Australia aligns with the Outcome Areas of Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021–2031
