State and territory government housing sites
The Australian Government spends more than $6 billion every year to improve housing and homelessness outcomes. This includes providing the states and territories with more than $1.5 billion a year through the National Housing and Homelessness Agreement (NHHA). The Australian Government is also providing around $4.6 billion in Commonwealth Rent Assistance (CRA), for some 1.3 million individuals and families. Although significant funding is provided by the Australian Government, the primary responsibility for housing assistance, including public housing, rests with state and territory governments.
