Steps towards ending family, domestic and sexual violence

DSS is working to end family, domestic and sexual violence through the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032 (the National Plan).

The safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, children and families is a priority. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Action Plan 2023-2025 (the Action Plan) outlines activities to help address this issue.

Implementing the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Action Plan 2023-2025

Grants are now open to support the implementation of the Action Plan. The grants aim to stop domestic violence within First Nations communities.

Applications close on 16 February 2024.

Information session for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Action Plan 2023-2025 grant opportunities are open for registration. The information session is a brief overview of the current grant opportunities to address domestic violence against First Nations women and children. The session will include guidance on the grants opportunities such as eligibility, the application process and a Q&A.

Information sessions will be held on:

  • Wednesday 7 February from 1pm to 2pm (AEDT)
  • Friday 9 February from 1pm to 2pm (AEDT)

Family, domestic and sexual violence is complicated. We understand that a one-size fits all approach will not suit all communities. The way the grants are rolled out will be different across Australia and tailored to community needs.

The grants will focus on 4 activities:

  • community-led prevention services, programs and campaigns for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children
  • community-led men’s wellness centres
  • family, domestic and sexual violence programs in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community-Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) 
  • increasing capacity of crisis accommodation services (by restricted invitation only).

We encourage all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community-Controlled Organisations and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations to apply.
